St Albans Half Marathon

My last minute entry to this event, turned out to be a pleasant surprise. More than just a half marathon, the organisers of this event put on the half marathon in conjunction with numerous other events making this a great family day out.

There is even a walking half marathon, which takes the same course as that of the runners but sets off a few hours earlier. It is hardly surprising that this well organised event is getting bigger and bigger every year.

Even though it was less than an hour’s drive from home, I hadn’t been to St Albans before and was surprised that the course was so idyllic – running through the country. The route has a superb final mile for the home straight, through the town, downhill into the main park and past a lake to the finish.

The only minor hiccup in this well organised event was, once again, the parking. Although there was ample of it the roads outside of the exit where congested, taking me a good 15 minutes to get out – not awful but I’d completed the run in good time. I have a sneaky suspicion the congestion may have got worse later in the day.

Not letting that put a dampener on the event though, this was a well organised, pleasant race, with a superb park setting to start and finish. It is definitely a race I’d be happy to do again.
