Elmore
7 mile, Chipsted
On arrival, after some fairly bad directions from an online map service, we reached what I had expected would be a small country event. With the great weather the event had at least 400 plus cars made up of runners and those attending the carnival.
The carnival and flower show which had a whole range of stalls and things
to do made a great day out for all the family and also had numerous stores
raising funds for local charities from cats to cancer.
The worryingly small starting line on very uneven farm land was not as
concerning as the 3 meter wide gap in the hedge only 100 meters from the
start line in which all 250 runners would have to race through!
Fortunately it went very smoothly and the remainder of the race was held
on the local roads with a small 1/2 mile stretch running parallel with
the local dual carriage way. But all in all a very quite country lanes
route with minimal traffic. As with many of these smaller events the local
runner clubs helped to make it a competitive event for, with a good mix
of ages and lots of lady runners.
A great day out and perfect for a restful Saturday afternoon in the summer
sun, in preperation for the 40km trail run tomorrow.
